Bombers too Good for The Kangaroos

1st XI: ECC 8-355 defeated GKCC 293

Following on from a strong day one performance posting 8-355 The Bombers were looking for 10 Greenvale wickets to register their first win of the season. In great batting conditions opening bowlers Nick McGuane (1-68) and Nav Rai (2-56) bowled well without luck with the Kangaroos reaching 0/70. Speedster Harry Singh 1-59 got the first breakthrough well held by Emerson White.

From there the Bombers clinically dismantled the Kangaroos. It was young spinner Jackson Martin in only his second 1st XI game who was the star. Martin bamboozled the Kangaroos batsmen to take 5/62 from 23.4 overs. The haul including the prize scalps of former Sri Lankan test batsmen Oshada Fernando and current Yorkshire CC first class player Will Luxton.

Despite resistance from the Kangaroos’ lower order including 65 from Ex Bomber Musa Hussein the firsts proved too good bowling the Kangaroos out for 293 in the 77th over.

The win opens the account for the firsts for this season and leaves the Bombers sitting 10th on the ladder.

2nd XI : GKCC 286 defeated by ECC 6-292

Chasing a solid 286 posted by the Kangaroos on Day One the Bombers resumed the chase at 0-16 on Day Two.

The opening pair of Markovski and Salvado started well reaching 59 before the departure of Markvoski for a well-made 44. The Kangaroos had the Bombers under pressure in the morning session with a further three wickets to leave the Bombers under pressure at lunch at 4-87.

After lunch the Bombers somewhat settled the ship with a solid partnership of 40 between skipper Tobin (30) and Dhanoa (78*) but at 5-127 the Bombers were still under pressure. A brilliant partnership of 107 between Ikroop Dhanoa and Arshit Rajput got the Bombers within striking distance at 5-234 and after the dismissal of Rajput the last 52 were ticked off with ease by Dhanoa who finished at 78* and all-rounder Arin Mishra with a classy 24*.

The second win of the season for the seconds sees the Bombers on top of the ladder after Round 2.

3rd XI ECC 8-265 d drew GKCC 8-214

It was a case of what might have been for the 3rds unable to take the final two Kangaroo’s wickets ultimately ending the day 8 down. After declaring over night at 8-265 the Bombers were looking for early inroads. A brilliant runout by Heath Doherty got the ball rolling and a second wicket to skipper Para Singh had the Kangaroos under pressure at 2-42. From here the Kangaroos rebuilt to be 3-147 at lunch and looking dangerous. After lunch the Bombers put the Kangaroos to the sword with constant wickets to have the Kangaroos on the back foot at 8-192 with  9 overs to bowl. Despite the best efforts of the boys it wasn’t to be with the Kangaroos hanging on to secure a draw. The points split after two great days of cricket.

Skipper Paratrooper Singh (2-23 from 23 overs) and spinner Krit Darji 2-43 from 13 overs) were the picks of the bowlers.

The draw laves the 3rds 15th on the ladder after round 2.

4th XI GKCC 371 drew ECC 8-316

Chasing a mammoth 376 at Cross Keys the 4ths gave as good as they got in an exciting run chase on Day 2.

Lead by a brilliant hundred from Hady Hegazy (128) the Bombers kept the Kangaroo’s under pressure all day. At 6-210 the win looked there for the taking however a couple of late wickets halted the momentum and the Bombers finished the day 8-316. A great performance from the young Bombers.

Hegazy (128) obviously the pick of batsmen however he was ably supported by new recruit Pahul Singh (30) and Umar Farooq (34).
