Round 20 Wrap Up

Jaspar Wilson-Keir

It was a tough day for the 1st XI however there some good results in the other 3 grades for the Bombers. See full wrap up below.

1ST XI

FRANKSTON 224 VS ECC 135

After a strong bowling display on day one bowling out Frankston for 224 the Bombers were needing to steady the ship being two down overnight after day one.

Assisted early by young opener Vihanga Fernando (25 off 55) it was overseas number six Harry Duke (57 off 69) who lead the charge for the Bombers. Despite Duke's fighting innings it was Frankston with all the momentum

throughout the day, they capitalised on the conditions with ball in hand taking regular wickets to dismiss the Bombers for a disappointing 135 in their last hit out for the year.

The loss left the Bombers 17th on the ladder.

2ND XI

ECC 9-290 DREW WITH FRANKSTON 7-337

Looking to chase down Frankston’s big score, a positive start from Captain Liam Tobin (23 off

29) put the home side on the back foot early. Despite losing both openers shortly after, the

class of Emerson White (52 off 100) was able to shine and steady the ship for the Bombers

before lunch.

After lunch the Bombers made inroads into the chase however Frankston were able to continue to take wickets, in a seesawing affair bringing about plenty of momentum swings through the middle session.

After tea it was Jacob Pawlowicz (32 off 40) and Archit Bhatia (100* 161) who shone bright giving the Bombers a great chance at a remarkable run chase. However some good bowling by Frankston allowed them a few counter punches that got the game right back in the balance.

At 9 down with 15 overs to play things were looking grim however, following his fellow Englishman's lead in the 1sts

(Harry Duke - with a fighting fifty in the firsts) debutant Brad Porter showed an incredible

amount of grit, locking the game down with 8* off 48 to defend what seemed like an

impending loss however the star of the afternoon was all rounder Archit Bhatia, Capping off his season in tremendous style producing a fine rear guard display (described by himself as in the same vein as Ponting at Old Trafford in 2005), bringing up his ton in the last over of the day to see the boys to safety. It was a clinical display of skill and determination, well batted Arch!

The draw and resulting point got the Bombers to 12th on the ladder. A fine effort with such a young team who will be looking to capitilise on the lessons learnt this season going into next.

3RD XI FRANKSTON 8-244 DEF ECC 229

With the away side piing on 30 quick runs to commence the second days play, the thirds

knew they were in need of a solid run chase. However Frankston had other plans in mind,

making the most of conditions early with the swinging ball. With all hope seeming lost at 5-

53, it was Arin Mishra (34 off 53) and Arshit Rajput (79 off 64) who looked to shift the

momentum back for the Bombers late in the second innings. Despite being complemented

by some late hitting after tea from Paramvir Singh (41 off 76), unfortunately Frankston

proved too good with the ball. The thirds all out for 229 just shy of the total.

The 3rds finishing the year in 12th position.

4TH XI

ECC 5-186 DEF FRANKSTON 169

Looking to complete the chase as early as possible, opener Nivain Gamanayake (43 off 85)

and number four Heath Doherty (70 off 105) were able to continue where they left off last

week. The pair put on a 76-run stance before Henry Robertson (44* off 38) finished the

innings in style. A great win to round off the year, the fourths finishing the season with back

to back wins. A credit to the hard work of the team and in particular skipper Krishna Chandak.
