Round 3, Day Two Match Reports

1st XI FCC 264 def ECC 88 & 2/92

It was a disappointing day for the 1st XI being bowled out for a disappointing 88 in replay to Frankston’s 264. Resuming at 2/12 the 1sts were confident of a second victory on the trot however in a run chase that never got going the 1sts were bowled out for 88. Asked to follow on the Bombers reached 2/92 before the captains shook hands.  Englishmen Harry Duke top scoring in the 2nd innings with 56*.

2nd XI – FCC 420 def ECC 230

It was an equally disappointing day for the previously undefeated 2nd XI being bowled out for 230 in reply to Frankston’s 420. The Bomber’s seemed to be cruising as young gun Simrth Gill (40) and skipper Liam Tobin (37) put on 72 for the 3rd wicket reaching 2/102 just after lunch however the dismissals of both Gill and Tobin triggered a continued loss of wickets throughout the afternoon that kept the Bombers on the back foot. The Bombers ultimately dismissed for 230 in the 90th over. Of note some late rearguard efforts from keeper Ethan Brne (47) who last man out and all-rounder Henry Robertson 26 as the boys tried to hang on for a draw.

3rd XI - FCC 4-264 lost to ECC 7-265

The thirds led the way for the Bombers recording their first win of the season in a nail biter at Cross Keys (SPW Oval). Set a challenging 265 for victory after Frankston declared the Bombers went on the attack in chase of the win.  After early wickets it was the middle order pairing of Vansh Sandhu (41) and Krit Darji (78) who broke the back of the chase to put the Bombers in the ascendency at 3-135. However there was another twist in the tale and quick wickets saw the Bombers put back on the back foot at 6-141. A great partnership of 101 between Darji and the ever reliable skipper Paratrooper Singh saw the Bombers recover to 6-241 closing in on victory. With the dismissal of Darji and time running out it was the cool heads of Agam Sandhu and the ever reliable Paratrooper who saw the boys home. The Bombers  passing the total 7 down  in the last over of the day to record a memorable victory.

4th XI – ECC 122 and 6-97 lost to FCC 8-216

It was a dirty day for the 4ths going down to a strong Frankston side at Jubilee Park. It was always going to be a tough challenge for the 4ths with Frankston resuming at 1-73 in reply to the 122 posted by the Bombers. Despite good fight shown by Prageeth Edirisinghe (3-36) and Krishna Chandak (2-33) the Bombers were unable to take the required 9 wickets being ultimately passed 6 down.  After Frankston declared at 8-216 the Bombers were 6-97 when stumps was called.
