It was a tough weekend for the Bombers losing all 4 games against Melbourne University CC.
1ST XI: ECC 138 & 2-22 lost to MUCC 158
The 1st XI lost a close game at University City Oval. Starting the day with the Students 3-63 still 75 runs short of our total 138, the Bombers fought gallantly taking a further 5 wickets before being passed 8 wickets down. The Students were eventually all out for 158 and the Bombers 2-22, before play was stopped at Tea. Muhammad Abdulrafay continued his strong start to his 1st XI career taking 2/31, whilst new recruit Will Dundon (2-38) continued his impressive start to his Essendon career.
The 1st XI currently sit 16th on the ladder and return to Windy Hill next week with a white ball game against Ringwood CC.
2ND XI: ECC 8-277 (dec) lost to MUCC 7-278
The 2nd XI fronted up to the home of cricket that is Cross Keys for day 2 of their clash. After a strong batting performance the week before posting 8-277, the Bombers were very confident going into Day 2. After a tough, hard fought day of cricket the 2nds were eventually passed in the 85 over having the Students 7 wickets down. Swinger Nav Rai was the pick of the bowlers collecting 3-58 whilst youngsters Agam Sandhu (2-55) Jackson Martin (2-26) were also dangerous.
The 2nds now sit 11th on the ladder after 4 games.
3rd XI: ECC 42 and 146 lost to MUCC 5-142 (dec) and 0-47
It was a tough couple of weekends for the previously undefeated 3rd XI losing outright to a strong Melbourne University 3rd XI. Having already been in a tough position overnight the Bombers were asked to bat again on Saturday morning with MUCC declaring their first innings at 5-142. The Bombers fought bravely to respond with 146 with Vansh Sandhu the pick of the batsmen with a dogged 53 not out. This left the Students a chase of 46 to claim the maximum 10 points. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be for the Bombers with the Students reeling in the runs for no loss.
The 3rds who still sit 7th on the ladder will be looking for a strong response next week against Ringwood.
4th XI: ECC 210 lost to MUCC 3-213
After a strong win against Footscray in Round 3 the 4ths had continued their run of recent strong performances posting a competitive 210 last Saturday. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough with the Students knocking off the runs for the loss of only 3 wickets in 58 overs. Seamer Jordan Linehan (1-38) the pick of the bowlers with youngster George Martindale also threatening all day. Since arriving from Darley CC (Ballarat Cricket Association) Martindale has been very impressive in his first season of Premier Cricket.
The loss leaves the 4th XI 12th on the ladder after 4 games.
The completion of Round 4 signals the end of the first block of Red Ball games for the season with the Bombers looking ahead to a white ball game against Ringwood CC next weekend.
