ROUND 5 – Bombers Swept by Rams

It was a tough Saturday for the Bombers with all 4 XIs going down to Ringwood CC.

1ST XI: ECC 160 DEF BY RINGWOOD 2-161

Sent in on a tough wicket in their return to Windy Hill, Essendon’s opening pair Emerson White and Connor Poulton came out with early intent before the partnership was broken at 1-27.

Despite a promising start from Englishmen Harry Duke (31) and a late innings fight back from second gamer Jarrod Parsons (24), Ringwood’s attack limited the Bombers to only 160 after 47.3 overs.

With the wicket flattening out in the heat of the afternoon the Rams chased down the Bombers total two wickets down. Essendon’s only two wickets coming from Lachie Busk (1/28 off 6) and Parsons (1/32 off 7). Lachie Busk the pick of the bowlers in his return to the 1st XI.

The firsts are set to host Geelong and Northcote in do or die T20 fixtures this week at Windy Hill.

2ND XI: RINGWOOD 6-285 DEF ECC 178

Coming up against a strong Ringwood side at Jubilee Park the Bombers bowled first on a green wicket. After an early wicket to speedster Agam Sandhu  the home team looked to be in control  on the back of a strong first wicket partnership leaving the Rams at 1-201 after 33 overs. However, a resilient display from the young bowling attack pinned the Rams back which their innings finish at 6-285.

Agam Sandhu was the pick of the Essendon bowlers, taking an early wicket to break Ringwood’s opening partnership and finishing with 2/46 off his 9 overs. There were also handy contributions from fellow seamers Henry Robertson (2/52) and Navdeep Rai (2/59).

With the bat an opening stand of 51 showed promise for the Bombers however the dismissal of skipper Liam Tobin for a well-made 30 off 50 signalled the start of a collapse. At 4-80 a solid partnership from Prasanna Ketheeshwaran (30 off 32) and Archit Bhatia (26 off 39) attempted to swing the result back Essendon’s way. However it wasn’t to be. After a hot day the hard-fought innings came to a close with the bowling side proving too good, the 2nds all out for 178.

3RD XI: RINGWOOD 6-256 DEF ECC 210

Opting to bowl first at Cross Keys Reserve wickets were hard to come by in a strong batting performance by the Rams. Young leg spinner Paawan Sharma was the pick of the Bombers bowlers with 2/36 off his 9.

Chasing 257 for victory in the heat, seasoned veteran Sean Phillips-Williams lead the chase with a courageous Captain’s knock of 100 (89) against the flow of play. Complimented with some pinch hitting from number seven Paramvir Singh (38 off 33) the pair showed some resistance to the disciplined Ringwood attack. However, with wickets tumbling it wasn’t enough to get them over the line. The Bombers falling short of the target by 47 runs.

4TH XI: RINGWOOD 6-260 DEF ECC 9-198

Losing the toss and bowling first at “The Rock” it was a tough start to the day for the Fourths. Solid bowling performances from 15-year-old George Martindale (2/46 off 9) and Captain Krishna Chandak (2/33 off 9) wrestled back some momentum for the Bombers.

Under pressure from the start at 1-26 Ringwood were in control throughout the innings. Although the Bombers showed glimpses with contributions from Tom Campbell (30) and Maan Fabian Singh (38) through the middle overs giving some hope in the end the Ram’s  total of 260 proved to be too much.

Looking to bounce back quickly the Bombers now look to rounds 6, 7 and 8 with T20’s (all to be played next Saturday)  against Geelong and Northcote with multiple points up for grabs across the grades.

The 1st XI will again be at home at Windy Hill with games against Geelong (9:30AM start) and Northcote (4:30PM start). The latter fixture will also coincide with our Past Players Function (for more info see link below).
