Round 10 & 11

It was a disappointing day for The Bombers with the 1sts and 2nds going down in all 4 fixtures on the day. The 3rds and 4ths recorded strong wins.

1st XI

Round 10 – ECC 3-167 def by Camberwell Magpies CC 5-170

It was a nail biter in game one at Windy Hill with the game decided off the last ball of the game and unfortunately the Bombers went down.

Batting first the Bombers batted well to post 3-167 led by a brilliant 94* from only 63 balls from Englishmen Duke. He was ably supported by Emerson White who showed his class with a quick fire 35* from only 26 balls.

With the ball in hand The Bombers started well and seemed to have the upper hand, however as can be the case in T20 cricket the match turned on its head late and some lusty hitting from Camberwell saw them requiring 10 off the last over. Skipper Liam Molloy bowled the last over and appeared to have the game won he took a wicket second ball with 9 runs required off the last 4 balls. It wasn’t to be however and credit where credit is due some brilliant batting from Camberwell including a six off the last ball saw the Bombers go down in a thriller.

Round 11 – ECC 147 def by Geelong CC 4-149

Backing up from their nail biting loss The Bombers took on Geelong in their second game of the day. Batting first the Bombers posted 147. Muhammad Arsalan led the way with 44 from 37 balls with contributions again from White (28) and Rajput (24).

The target of 147 was always a little light however the Bombers competed hard with ball in hand. Noman Safdar was brilliant with 3/14 from his 4 overs whilst slower ball specialist Nick McGuane chipped in for 1 wicket. Ultimately though the Bombers went down in the 18th over with Geelong passing the target 4 wickets down.

After the completion of Rounds 10 & 11 The Bombers sit 14th on the ladder.

2nd XI

Round 10  Camberwell Magpies CC 2-181 def ECC 140

Facing a road trip down to Geelong the 2nds faced off against Camberwell in their first game of the day. Bowling first The Magpies got off to a flying start posting 2-181 from their 20 overs in a strong batting performance.  Nav Rai the pick of the bowlers with 1/25 from his 4 overs.

With bat in hand The Bombers chase never really got going. After being 7 for 69 Ikroop Dhanoa showed some fight with 68 from 35 balls however it was all in vain as the Bombers were dismissed for a disappointing 140.

Round 11 – Geelong CC 9-130 def ECC 6-124

In game 2 the seconds were again disappointing going down to Geelong.

Bowling first the Bombers bowled well restricting the Cats to 9 for 130. Fast bowler Arin Mishra was the star with 4 for 22 whilst Nav Rai (2/25) and Ikroop Dhanoa (2/23) were also impressive.

With bat in hand The Bombers were disappointing and came up 7 runs short of victory.  Opener Aidan Salvado made 36 much to the pleasure of the smallish but vocal crowd in attendance whilst Ikroop Dhanoa (29) also chipped in. Ultimately though it was a dirty day for the seconds as they went down for a second loss of the day.

There was some good news for the day as the 3rd XI recorded another strong win against Camberwell. The 3rds took on Camberwell Magpies away at Camberwell.  Bowling first the Bombers restricted the Magpies to 2/122. Sheik Arron Cornish was the pick of the bowlers, the UAE export showed his skill picking up 2/10 from 4 overs and proving just about unhittable.

Chasing 123 for victory it was young gun Vansh Sandhu who led the way with a powerful 66 from 38 deliveries. From there Zac Beniwal steered the boys home with 43* from 42 deliveries to win the game for The Bombers, the 3rds recording their 3rd win on the trot.

After the win the Bombers now sit 5th on the ladder.
