WJ Dowling Shield Squad Announcement

The Bombers are pleased to announce our Squad for the upcoming Victorian Premier Cricket WJ Dowling Shield Competition.

The Dowling Shield has been running since 1955 and involves the best young talent the State has to offer competing for each of the 18 Premier Cricket Clubs. To be eligible for the Dowling Shield players must be either 14 or 15 years of age as at 1 September. The tournament is  an important step in Cricket Victoria's Player Pathway Programme.

The 2025 Edition will feature 7 Games played between 6th to the 14th of January 2025.


The Bombers most recently won the Dowling Shield Competition in 2023.

Essendon Cricket Club is pleased to announce our squad for the 2025 edition below.


Charlie Hillard : Eaglehawk CC  - A country quick. A tall fast bowler who hits the deck hard and bowls a heavy ball.


Xavier Stuckings: West Coburg/St Andrews CC -   A left arm medium pacer who has an uncanny ability to angle the ball across right handers.


Sandula Edirisinghe Taylors Lakes CC - A bottom age all rounder. Sandula bowls handy leggies and has an excellent batting technique.


Jackson Martin: Yarraville Club CC/Essendon CC - A left arm orthodox, whose ball control speaks for itself. He is also a middle order batsmen with dashing bravery and intent. Exciting talent, with plenty of upside.  Currently playing in the Essendon 2nd XI.


Luay Miraz: Werribee Juniors CC/Essendon CC - A tall fast bowler with exciting ball speed and ball control. Already a solid performer in the Essendon third XI. Luay has already roughed up a few senior batsmen already in the nets.


Vanshjot Sandhu: Darebin Chargers/Essendon CC - An aggressive batsmen with lots of power. A player who plays with no fear, and will take on anyone. Currently making runs in our 3rd XI.


Simrith Singh Gill: Werribee CC/Essendon CC - The captain of last year's Dowling Shield team. Sim will be looking to back up his sensational tournament  last year. Hits the ball with power even through the offside, and has already impressed with a 40 against Melbourne CC in the Second XI. Simrith was also recently selected in Victorian Metro U17 Squad.


Advith Godala:  Werribee Juniors CC - A wicketkeeper batsmen with lovely hands. A textbook keeper who impressed in last year's addition of the tournament.


Anmol Basnet: Epping CC - A Brunswick CC talent.  Very good with the gloves. A young player with the ability to hit the ball hard once set.


Gus Newing : Coburg CC/ MGS -  A Melbourne Grammar talent who was proved himself a performer with runs in England. A very busy batsmen, with lots of potential.


Samin Shafquat: Williamstown Colts CC - An all round talent, Samin is described as a 3D player. He is a fearless batsmen and a crafty medium with all sorts of tricks. He is also a gun in the field. A youngster who just wants to keep getting better, one to watch!


Aarav Laxman: Epping CC - A Plenty Valley talent, who just made his 1st XI debut. Bats with a great balance of aggression and technique.


George Martindale: Darley CC/Essendon CC - A young medium who just keeps proving that line and length bowling works. A relentless bowler who is always on the spot, and a developing batsmen. Currently impressing in our 4th XI.


Matthew Rumoro:  Essendon CC - A home grown Essendon junior whose been with the club since U12s. A bowler who can bang a length and a proven U16 (1) performer.


The squad will be coached by current ECC Senior Players Archit Bhatia (ECC 1ST XI Player and 2023 Winning Squad Member)  and Jaspar Wilson-Keir (ECC 2ND XI Player and Leitchville Gunbower CC 1st XI Opening Batsmen).

Round 4 (T20) Thursday 9TH of January 2025 – Essendon CC v Carlton CC, Princes Park

Round 5 (One Day Game) Monday 13th of January 2025 – Essendon CC v Prahran CC, Righetti Oval

Round 6 (One Day Game) Tuesday 14th of January 2025 – Essendon CC v Geelong CC, Windy Hill
